To you Fisho's out there, ever remember the first time you went fishing? Ever remember the experience that made you got Hooked to this wonderful experience? Well... i kinda vaguely did, and i thought of posting it before i totally forget everything about it.It was back when i was just a wee tod' (4 to 5 years or so, back when all of us were still this ignorant little monsters without a care in the world)on the beaches Batu Feringgi, Penang Island if most of you did not know where is it...Back then the waters of Penang was still clean enough for you to go for a dip without any worry of getting any skin cancer or infections & the sands were white and clear of rubbish(how i miss those days) i was as usual chasing little white crabs to use as bait (well, use for bait or just chasing it for the heck of it i couldn't remember - little boy ma... :D).
My father, has just struck something on the rod- set using spark plugs as weights with worms as bait and passed it to me with the so called advise of "try and see la boy". From the first moment i got hold of the rod i was hooked! I remember toiling with the fish for about 10 minutes or so on a medium-light tackle (would feel like holding on to a heavy duty marlin rod while standing i the sand at that age :P) next thing i remember was me being totally exhausted, passing the rod back to my dad to subdue the monster! Well, after a few pumps and reeling my dad managed to land the monster (when your a tod', everything is a MONSTER to you)
The MONSTER as it turns out to be a big catfish, and from then on i found myself kept asking my father to bring me out fishing, i can only imagine the grin and satisfaction within him, the "YES! i finally manage to POISON my son to go fishing" feeling (as all Fisho's would dream of :D).
Till today, when people still ask me "Why in the world would you go fishing so often? its so boring". My answer to them is just this...
"Its not the landing of the fish or the trill of the catch, but more of the Company you keep and the experience of just being there with your friends, enjoying the company and moment - any catch u make is a bonus"
It took me quite awhile to really get the idea, but since "knowing it" i've really cherished the moments that i was able to spend the time to fish with my best pals and most of all my Dad, the Hero that landed the MONSTER. One day i could only hope that i would be able to pass on this experience / "poison" over to my children and enjoy the Game of Fishing....

nibble nibble, taut taut, STRIKE!, Fish ON!
