Why Nikon???

well.... been quite a few questions on why i choose to use a Nikon rather than the more "sports" oriented Canon. well.... after sometime, i kinda got the answer all together (in words la that is)

1) My dad had a Nikomat - and i happen to find it hidden away in the closet. this was actually re-used by yours truly in Batik Corners first fashion shoot.I can still remember, the camera shop showed what film to use for the lighting... (ISO 600, f5.6... hmmMMmmm....)

imagine a camera built back in the 70s, shutter still funtioning, only problem was the lense as usual will grow fungus and moldy (luckily was able to be repaired)

this body was a full metal body, coupled with an ancient lense.. but still shoots like a dream...

my fantasy/ dream of being a photographer ended due to the high cost of buying films... urgh... RM100+ just for one fashion shoot? no thanks...

2) Then my dad bought a new olympus (but still not dslr - with a 300mm zoom, wow!!! over awed by the zoom lense... ) - but still the dream ended with the cost of the films... this also i already started work... boh lui... :(

3) Planned to go get myself a proper dlsr rather than a simple point and shoot- planned for 2 whole years!!! argh.... imagine the patience.... the pain of seeing everyone enjoying shooting (and of course fishing, or the cost of buying gears and stuff did not help) - oh yeah, not forgetting the cost of "khau lui".... urgh... not to say i didn't like it, but... fishing + lui + car + house? just no place for camera... ahahah...

4) now... when did i get bitten by the shutterbug? well... i would say i just got fedup of sitting at home with no fishing kaki to go fish, and decided i just invest on something that i can busy myself with... and spent another 2 years waiting and deciding which camera to buy...

5) was already at the camera shop (mind you this was after looking / reading through all the "technical" reviews and friends feedback on how wonderful the new Canon Rebel with the 2 lenase package was...), so these are a first few things i've noticed:

Canon:

i) small and plastic feel (so small i think it was targetted for ladies / small children)

ii) the lense was crap (later confirmed online as well). slow, and not sharp

iii) to upgrade to pro grade lense would cost you a big bomb (comparing the L lenses to the standard lenses)

iv) all the buttons are placed, kinda wrong for my feel - and its too "TOYish"

then i took up the last available Nikon D70s in the shop (D80 was just launched, and kinda expensive)

Nikon:

i) NOW this is what i call a CAMERA (not some plastic toy you would have in a canon) - the solidness, the weight, the size... ahhHHhhh... it felt just right...

ii) the kit lense that came with it was just wonderful... sharp and solid. wonderful reach for a beginner and amazing focus speed for a startup lense.

iii) the pro lense are cheaper than the Canon lense, and so are most of the accessories...

iv) its a "machofied" camera...

v) as the Digi advert would say - Hou Wong Ah!!!! hehehe... NIKON

vi) its made backward compatible (lenses) - same mounts!!!! hehehehe....

and so the rest is history..... come my friends... come over to the dark side, you'll never regret it......
so tata for now...

Nibble nibble, taut taut, STRIKE! Fish On!!!
