Ladies on the line….

It’s the 27th May2006… Desmond been bugging me to take him out fishing for weeks and I guess it would be a better time than any to visit ye’ ol’ tow foo pond for a change. 2 ladies (his little missy and Shirley ex-maxis) came along with us on this trip. Guess its time to polish on my “poisoning” skills before I use it on Jay Den (my nephew :P – have another 4 years to practice before he come of age and able to be “enlightened” by his uncle).
Day started of quite well, 5.30am at office and had breakfast in Sunway one and only 7 star restaurant. Nothing much to eat, except Roti Canai and Milo for breakfast. Shirley’s friend decided not to join us, due to the shortage of equipments. Interestingly enough, Shirley bought exactly what I request for to the letter nothing more nothing less! (4 prawns, dates, flour and Gardenia bread!)

Arrival at Tow Foo at 7am sharp as planned, however didn’t really expect the setting up time took so long (aiyah, wat to do? 1 person setting up 3 rods ma…) We did however had an unexpected guess an anteater! (Malayan Pangolin – a protected species in our Malaysian forestry) Apparently caught by one of Ah Wong’s friends and given to him in “good will”. After a few quick pic, the pangolin was released and left to wander off in Tow Foo (becoming more and more of a animal sanctuary la this place- first it was the monstrous monitor lizard now pangolin, I wonder what would be next?)

The lot of us decided to head for the 20,000 pacu pond (an ex-mining pond) to try our luck – heck… 20,000 fishes!!! If can’t catch one from 4 rods, must be a really bad day. All at first we planned to use 2 bottom rig and 2 on lures. However, after about the 3rd cast or so – Christina gave up and changed to a bottom rig. (anyways, can’t bear to loose lures on this round – Pokai liau ma…). It proved to be somewhat fruitful day (of course after a lot of trial and error, learning how to Strike the fish and getting the stuck lures and hooks from the vegetation around the pond).

Shirley was the first to land a little pacu on my noodle rod (bait: prawn meat). Then from then on everyone wanted a shot at using the prawn meat. Action should be very fast, but I guess inexperience slowed the actions – there were a lot of nibbles, but I guess they were still trying to get the hang of Striking the fish. Yours truly in the meanwhile was walking around trying out a new spoon (didn’t attract any interest at all, but was busy most of the time trying to help the rest unhook their catches and also casting the lines out).

Summary was that everyone caught something except for yours truly, and the men were badly out-fished by the ladies (4 pacu 2 pak sou kong v.s 2 pacu for half day fishing)… but didn’t really bother about catching fish then, was more interested in trying to sharpen my skill of “poisoning” people to take up this wonderful sport of fishing.

Nibble nibble, taut taut, STRIKE! Fish ON!!!
