I was sending my missus this morning as usual, and i noticed something that i've really hated our education system. I still remember back then when surprisingly our then brilliant Minister of Education announced that we Malaysians should use the Bahasa Malaysia (now Bahasa Melayu-i bet most of you don't even know this right?) as our national language, and should get rid of English from our education (setting Malaysia back by 20 years!). Not knowing 15 years down the road, they are now making a huge U-Turn and try to educate our children in using English again in our education (science subject for now) - not surprisingly it has collapse all together, why you may ask? well, how can you expect the students nowadays to understand science subject taught in English when they can't even speak the language properly?
I bet most of you would have heard this if you constantly take the LRT/KTM at the KL Sentral. Try listening to the announcements: "train arriving at level wan platom sikh", erm.... since when did we rename all our arrival platform according to race? this is our international gateway / transport hub - atleast they would have have some sense to employ someone who can actually pronounce the word "SIX" correctly?
Malaysians... once known to have one of the best English language pronunciation country (i'm not kidding you), now can barely put a proper phrase together let alone have a proper English conversation with anyone. I'm not saying that all Malaysians can't actually speak proper English, BUT majority of those without parent that were educated during the English rule (before our independence) or were brought up in the "Malaynised" study/ schools, CAN'T... and i repeat, CAN'T speak proper English!
The sample at the KL Sentral is not just a one off event, but its rampant now (Everywhere, from KFC, to McDonalds, to any fast food or transport services we have here - only hypocritical fools would not agree to this - or perhaps their English were as of same standard or as Phua Chu Kang puts it "your England very powderful")... and i dare say, Malaysians if we keep on heading this way, we'll never be a developed country. Regardless of how much natural resources we have in our wonderfully blessed God given land.
Nibble nibble, taut taut, STRIKE! Fish On!!
